APP Makes Mongabay’s “Top 10 Happy Environmental Stories of 2014”

Mongabay.com – (January 15, 2015) – Mongabay developed a list of “Top 10 Happy Environmental Stories of 2014.” Asia Pulp & Paper Group (APP) was acknowledged as number two on the list for their commitment to Zero Deforestation and continued sustainability efforts.

2014 was a busy year for APP. On April 28th, APP announced a plan to restore and support the conservation of one million hectares of rainforest across Indonesia. In addition, on September 23th, APP Chairman Teguh Ganda Wijaya signed the New York Declaration on Forests during the United Nations (U.N.) Climate Summit.

APP was one of 34 influential companies that signed the Declaration, along with several other environmental groups and leaders from around the world. Signers commit to a vision of slowing, halting and reversing global forest loss, while simultaneously contributing to economic growth, poverty alleviation, rule of law, food security, climate resilience and biodiversity conservation.

All this just one year after the implementation of APP’s unprecedented Forest Conservation Policy (FCP) set in place in February 2013.
