Corporate Knights – (February 10, 2015) – Corporate Knights announces Asia Pulp & Paper (APP) as a “Hero” in volume 16 of their Heros and Zerosseries.
Since the implementation of APP’s Forest Conservation Policy (FCP) in 2013, corporate and sustainability organizations around the world have taken note of the positive strides APP is making toward environmental responsibility.
Author of the Heros and Zeros series, Jeremy Runnalls, writes, “APP is well on its way to completing one of the fastest and most dramatic environmental turnarounds in recent decades.”
Runnalls notes that APP has come a long way since being dubbed a “Zero” back in 2012. Today, APP is receiving praise for its unprecedented sustainability commitments, and has even transformed its relationship with Greenpeace, one of the NGOs who criticized APP years ago.
Runnalls quotes Shane Moffatt, a forest campaigner for Greenpeace:
“With key people in senior management genuinely committed to making it work, APP’s implementation of the FCP has been transparent and very largely successful to date.”
“To continue engaging the private sector in this landmark initiative, customers should in our view apply contractual conditions requiring continued progress and demonstrate to APP that these commitments are worth it.”
