Pulp & Paper International Editorial: A New APP For the Pulp and Paper Industry

Atlanta, Ga. – (July 2, 2014)

In a featured editorial in the June 2014 issue of Pulp & Paper International (PPI), Editor Mark Rushton describes the dynamic relationship between Solaris Paper’s strategic supply partner, Asia Pulp & Paper, and environmental NGOs such as Greenpeace and WWF. What started as a hostile relationship, has now transformed into one of collaboration and praise with the adoption of APP’s groundbreaking sustainability commitments.

Rushton acknowledges the development of positive relationships between APP and the NGOs to be “one of the most remarkable turnarounds of NGO opposition ever seen, not only in the pulp and paper industry, but surely in all industries.”

In February 2013, APP launched its Forest Conservation Policy (FCP). This policy put an end to forest clearance across its entire supply chain. And in April 2014, the company expanded upon its commitment to include restoring over 1 million hectares of Indonesian rainforest.

Rushton concludes the article with the prediction that rapidly renewable fiber (RRF) sources, such as the fiber grown by APP in its sustainably managed plantations, will be “hot stuff” in the future; and continues to observe APP’s movements toward forest conservations and restoration.
